The 2022 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Writing and Reading Contest Preliminary Competition of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law kicks off

On October 22, the 2022 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Writing and Reading Contest Shangzheng Preliminary Competition was successfully held. As the only foreign language competition that has been selected in the 2021 National University Discipline Competition Ranking List, the "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Competition has been actively promoted by the School of Language and Culture (School of International Exchange) in recent years, and has received more and more awards. With the recognition of political students, the students' enthusiasm for participation is also increasing day by day. Nearly 600 students from the whole school signed up for this preliminary competition. The contestants included both undergraduates and postgraduates, covering all secondary colleges of the school.

In view of the situation of epidemic prevention and control, this competition will be conducted online (Tencent Conference). The writing and reading competitions are held at 9:00-11:00 am and 14:00-15:50 pm respectively. The preliminary content of this English writing competition requires writing one argumentative essay (about 500 words) and one explanatory/practical essay (300-500 words), with a total writing time of 120 minutes and a full score of 100. The English writing competition not only tests the writing skills of the contestants, but also considers their comprehensive strength.

The English reading contest preliminary rounds are all objective questions, including three modules: Read and Know, Read and Reason, Read and Question, and the answering time is 110 minutes, out of 100 points. As a professional English competition, the "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Reading Contest not only tests the reading breadth and basic reading skills of the contestants, but also requires mature logical inferences, sufficient reading breadth, and practical life experience. In addition, this year's reading competition has a wide range of materials, covering ecological environmental protection, social issues, scientific exploration, historical and cultural issues, etc.

The "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Writing and Reading Contest Shangzheng Preliminary Competition provided a good platform for Shangzheng students to demonstrate their English writing and reading skills, and realized the purpose of "promoting learning through competition". After fierce competition, the following outstanding contestants will represent Shanghai University of Political Science and Law in the semi-finals of the Shanghai division. They are: Li Xuanqin (Shanghai Documentary School), Wang Yuyi (Shanghai Documentary School), and Wan Siqi (Law School) for writing cometition; Wang Qingxin (School of International Law) and Chen Ying (School of Language and Culture) for reading competition.
