On the morning of May 7th, the preliminary round of the 2023 National English Competition for College Students (NECCS) in the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law region was successfully held at our university.Nearly 800 undergraduate and graduate students from our university participated in the preliminary round, with participants categorised into Group A (graduate students), Group B (English and translation major students), Group C (non-English major undergraduate students), and Group D (students majoring in the arts). Wei Chuancheng, the Party Secretary of the School of Language and Cultures (School of International Communication and Exchange), and Chang Lini, the Deputy Dean, conducted an inspection of the competition venue. The examination room was well-organised, and invigilators carried out their duties meticulously, strictly following examination instructions to ensure the completion of the test.

Since last year, our university has been hosting this national English discipline competition, and the number of participating students has shown a significant increase. This not only demonstrates the students' recognition and attention to the value of this competition but also showcases our university's continuous efforts in organising and promoting competitions to stimulate students' interest in learning English. This reflects the continuous improvement in university English teaching and the positive outcomes of educational reforms.

The successful organisation of the preliminary round of the NECCS not only helps students solidify and expand their knowledge and skills in English but also comprehensively enhances the overall English proficiency of college students. It also contributes to the realisation of our university's goal of cultivating international innovative talents.

We look forward to the participants proving their English strength in the competition, advancing to the finals in the Shanghai region and the national finals, and bringing honor to our university.
