Successful Completion of the 2023 “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students in the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law Region

On October 13th and 14th, after intense online registration and preliminary selection in September and October, the finals of the 2023 “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students in the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, covering English speech, writing, reading, and translation, were successfully held.


The speech finals took place on the evening of October 13th in the A1-101 Conference Room of the School of Language and Cultures (School of International Communication and Exchange). The competition included a 3-minute prepared speech, a 2-minute impromptu speech, and a 1-minute Q&A session. The atmosphere at the competition was intense, with 13 finalists presenting their insights on the theme The Chinese Path to Modernization in various fields such as technology, nature, education, peace, and humanities. They showcased the solid language foundation, broad international perspective, and rich knowledge of the students at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law. After evaluation by a panel of five expert judges, the award winners of the campus competition were announced:

First Prize: Zhao ZheLong (School of Criminal Justice), Yang Shuyu (School of Language and Cultures), Cai Linglin (School of Government Management);

Second Prize: Fan Xujia (School of Economic Management), Mei Tingkai (Law School), Qin Shuangshuang (School of International Law), Hu Yiqin (School of Economic Management);

Third Prize: Ren Qinghua (School of Language and Cultures), An Ning (School of Language and Cultures), Xia Xiaofan (School of Language and Cultures), Duan Yaxi (School of Government Management), Huang Jialin (School of Government Management), Feng Xinyu (School of Economic Management).

This contest, in order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, carry out the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and talents, promote the integration of the Party's spirit into textbooks, classrooms, and minds, and cultivate more high-level international talents with patriotic sentiments, a global perspective, and professional skills for the country. It aims to enhance the independent cultivation of international talents, serve the country's participation in global governance, and contribute to the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity. Therefore, it has specially added the theme of Understanding Contemporary China and incorporated important content from Xi Jinping's Thoughts on Governance and Administration, the 20th Party Congress report, and relevant political literature into the topics of various events.

The School of Language and Cultures (School of International Communication and Exchange) aims to use the contest as a driving force to promote the reform of foreign language knowledge and curriculum systems and textbook innovation, thereby constructing a high-quality education and talent development system.
