After deliberation and approval by the 8th President's Office Meeting and the 18th Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law in 2019, the School of Government announced its establishment on May 6, 2019. The School of Government was formed on the basis of the merger of the former School of International Affairs and Public Administration and the School of Social Management. It became the first School of Government among the national political and law universities in Shanghai. On the afternoon of May 15th, the school held a formal inaugural meeting of the School of Government, and announced the list of the first leadership team members of the School of Political Management: Lian Shufang (Dean of the General Branch), Wang Weimin (Dean, Deputy Dean of the General Branch), Chuang Xiaoyan (Deputy Dean of the General Branch), Tan Tan (Deputy Dean). The establishment of the School of Government is one of the important measures for the institutional reform of the secondary colleges of our school. The newly established School of Government has nearly 1,500 undergraduates and postgraduates, with seven undergraduate majors in political science, sociology, international politics, social work, administration, labor and social security, and applied psychology, and a master's major in social work Degree programs and master programs in the direction of international politics and international rule of law under the first-level discipline catalog of law, and have established the National Security Research Institute, the Social Governance Research Institute, the Northeast Asian Research Center, the China National Institute for SCO Internation Exchange and Judicial Coopertion Research Institute, and the "Belt and Road" Security Research Institute , Social Security Research Center and many other research institutions. In 2009 and 2010, the majors of International Politics and Social Work were approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission as majors in undergraduate education highland construction. In 2010, the social work profession (judicial social work direction) was approved by the Ministry of Education for the sixth batch of specialty construction sites with higher education characteristics. In 2014, the research direction of "China National Institute for SCO Internation Exchange and Judicial Coopertion and International Politics" became one of the directions of Shanghai Law Plateau Discipline approved by our school. Since 2015, the International Politics Major of our school and Zhejiang University have jointly cultivated overseas doctoral students. In 2017, the social work major was approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission as the fourth batch of undergraduate applied talent training and construction majors. Starting from 2017, relying mainly on our college's international political professional teachers, the China China National Institute for SCO Internation Exchange and Judicial Coopertion International Judicial Exchange and Cooperation Training Base, East China University of Political Science and Law, and the Qingpu District Government have begun to jointly build our school's post-doctoral workstation.


In 2016, the “Belt and Road” Security Research Institute and the China National Institute for SCO Internation Exchange and Judicial Coopertion Research Institute were simultaneously approved as a key research base for the humanities and social sciences of universities in Shanghai. In 2017, the Northeast Asian Research Center and the China National Institute for SCO Internation Exchange and Judicial Coopertion Research Institute were also approved for the Ministry of Education's National Regional Research Center (for record construction). The newly integrated National Security Research Institute relies on the academic advantages of the China Shanghai Cooperation Training Base established in our school in the research fields of "Belt and Road", big data counter-terrorism, Northeast Asia and Central Asia regional security, and is guided by major national strategic needs , Actively participate in and promote the construction of a national security discipline theoretical system, personnel training mechanism, and comprehensive research on the construction of national security disciplines with Chinese characteristics and adapted to my country's national security work.
